In 2001, Heng graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from National University of Singapore. After 14 years working at the Panasonic R&D Center, and with expertise in deep and machine learning, computer vision, visual slam, and robotics, Heng decided to become a freelance algorithm engineer.

A Competitions Master in Kaggle, he earned 4 gold medals and currently holds the 3rd place for Discussion Grandmaster. To relax after an intense work session, Heng likes to do gardening.

Content Strategy

What can you now do on a Z that you couldn’t do before?

Z is fantastic for high computational and data intensive problems. I can now explore topics like 3D medical image processing, NLP, reinforcement learning, and video recognition. More amazingly, I can experiment new ideas and get the results within a day!

What is the next thing you want to learn or experiment with on your Z?

I would like to try self-supervised learning. Also, I would like to combine deep learning with computer graphics and computer simulation.

What’s your favorite Z feature?

I am impressed by the huge GPU VRAM from Z. With the HP Z8’s 96 GB, I can try the biggest and most powerful neural net and more data in my modeling.
